Forge die building: why this course exists
The eight decisions that set forge die life before the first hit, and why the build is a chain where the weakest link sets the floor.
Step 8 of 10Decision 8 — Vendor handoff
The print to the heat treater, the routing to the nitride house, the polish spec, the PVD callout. Each vendor sees their own callout. None of them sees the design intent unless somebody writes it down. The information that lives only in the tool builder's head is information that does not affect the build. Lesson 10 covers what to write where, and Lesson 13 covers the document trail that survives a vendor change.
Quick check
A press die is going from a nitride house to a PVD coater for an AlTiN duplex stack. The nitride certificate documents an 8 µm ε-rich compound layer over a 0.45 mm diffusion zone. Why does the PVD coater need that detail on their incoming paperwork?
