Reading wear: crazing, washout, abrasion, adhesive pickup, plastic deformation

A die pulled at 60K hits lands on the bench. Five people look at it. The operator says "heat checked, normal." The die-setter says "washed out at the flash land." The maintenance tech says "galled at the corner." The tooling engineer says "plastic deformation on the boss." The quality engineer says "we need to scrap it." All five are looking at the same die, all five are partly right, and none of them have a shared vocabulary for what they are seeing. The pull-now decision waits until someone produces a microsection three days later. By then the next die in the same job has the same problem and nobody noticed because nobody knew what to look for.
